On offer and after 60 years, newly manufactured Norton Dommi cylinder barrels are available!! We have started with our Aerospace spec heat treated L169 Commando barrel castings. These are not the same as Dommi barrel castings, having been thickened up to cope with greater power outputs. In addition, the bottom fin at the sides runs into the base flange, as on the 850 Commando, so they are through bolted for even more strength. We have machined them on our high precision state of the art 5 axis CNC machining centres to Dommi specification, then installed spun cast iron liners before finishing them to factory dimensions.
Because the head bolts are screwing into alloy not iron, we have used a coarser thread than original, so you need a different head bolt set, which we can supply. Plus, the 4 outer base studs need to be removed & replaced with the through bolts, which again we can supply. As you can see from the photos, our barrels have one fewer fins than original. So our 500 barrels have 7 fins, and despite being stronger weigh 1.5Kg (3.3 pounds) less than the original .
